While surfing the internet, viruses prowl about, searching every tiny hole through your computer and attempting to attack your system. They are everywhere and they exist in various forms. From the direct attack to disguising themselves as harmful advertisements, they will stop at nothing especially if your computer is defenseless.
If you frequently sport your virus-busting equipment, and yet, you still experience a slow computer and numerous advertisements popping out of your screen, while surfing the internet, virus may not be the cause anymore. It could be because of spyware.
Spyware is a familiar term among internet and computer users. They often associate this term as something bad for your computer such as a virus but most of them barely have an idea on what it is exactly.
Spyware is a type of malware or malicious ware that is designed to infiltrate a computer system without the proper consent of the computer user. As you surf the net, there are risks of spyware secretly installing itself inside your computer system in the form of little information bits.
This is why the presence of spyware slows your computer down. Unlike the common software, spywares use a lot of resources and drags your computer system down. Also, spywares often attach themselves into your programs. If the spywares take up the extra space needed for your programs to function, your computer suffers, as well as your online activities.
This sneaky little software doesn’t stop its terror there.
In spyware’s simplest form, as it installs itself in to your computer, it spies on your internet surfing habits such as the topics and sites you go to. Once it has detected your surfing habits, the spyware serves up pop-up advertisements that will annoy your head off.
Since spyware works hidden from your sight, you might be surprised that the spyware could be creating an avenue for sending spam mails to anyone using your computer! How? Just like a mindless zombie, your system becomes storage of information such as e-mail lists that sends off spam e-mails to anyone who’s included in your zombie storage system. Simply put, your computer is used as a tool for this wretched activity.
At times, spywares are crawling in the free software that websites offer. Remember, spywares are hidden and they are intertwined with the software. Even if the software itself is useful and safe, what’s tagged along with it is the mystery.
Some websites which have honest-to-goodness motives will not put your computer’s life at risk.
But some sites disclaim that whatever happens to your computer once you have downloaded the program is no longer their responsibility. So basically, if your computer got damaged because of that program, it is no longer the fault of the website. It is your responsibility, as the user, who willingly downloaded it.
Simply put, the risk of having those spywares into our little cyber home can be avoided. Be wise. Be responsible. It’s a small price to pay for the safety of your computer.
